Your Policy Manual is one of the most important documents you can have that deals with employees. In Nevada the state laws do not cover in detail a lot issues that arise in day to day management of a business.
In Nevada and most other states, a large number of employment issues are not covered in detail by law. The Labor Commissioner in Nevada often will support the Company’s position as long as it is clearly stated in the policy manual and consistently applied.
Companies also need to have a policy manual that explains things like what are paid company holidays, do part time employees receive any benefits and if so, what. A policy manual should cover subjects such as what is “unacceptable conduct”, what employees should do if they feel they are discriminated, harassed or otherwise taken advantage of by other employees and/or management.
Calling various governmental agencies often does not help as their representatives know answers to routine questions that can also be found on line.
